Heads of Senior High Schools in the Five (5) Northern Regions are being urged by the GES DG to improve the WASSCE in 2021.

of Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, Director General of the Ghana Education Service, has encouraged heads of SHSs in the five Northern regions to raise the performance of the maiden 2020 WASSCE candidates by at least 10% in all subjects.

As Ghanaians analyze the impact of the free secondary education policy, the spectacular results of the maiden free SHS candidates in 2020 have sparked positive debate in the academic and social spheres.

In a meeting with stakeholders in Tamale, the Director General encouraged heads to keep up their excellent job despite the obstacles on the ground.

Prof Opoku-Amankwa praised Prof Opoku-daring Amankwa's and perseverance in raising our future leaders to the highest standards expected of pupils in the twenty-first century.

The Director General reassured teachers that the government is well on its way to settling teacher intervention allowances. He urged heads and staff not to be discouraged by the delay in receiving these allowances, as they will be given as soon as possible.

The Director General emphasized that "these allowances are real commitments by government as part of attempts to motivate personnel in assuring continuous academic endeavors under the government flagship educational strategy of FSHS."

Prof Opoku-Amankwa also used the occasion to address some of the GES staff's most pressing concerns, such as promotion and responsibility allowance. He stated that as of July 31, 2014, a total of 14,997 employees have been promoted.

He also stated that GES presently pays responsibility allowance to 41,066 employees. He stated that the list of employees who have been promoted as well as those who have received responsibility allowance has been provided to the Regional Directors, who have been instructed to show it. As a result, he advised GES employees who are eligible for either upgrading or a responsibility allowance to verify their particular regions and then notify his or her office of any issues. He went on to say that management had put a hold on upgrading for a while because many of these employees had gone on to pursue further education in various programs without first acquiring the requisite permits from the Service.

Rest confident that all of the personnel concerned have been cleared to be promoted to the proper Service grades. Prof Opoku-Amankwa stated, "These works began last month, and the rest will be added in August 2021."

The Director General challenged the heads to deliver on the criteria of the newly signed performance contracts by enhancing their performance by at least ten percent in the upcoming WASSCE in 2021.

Prof Opoku-Amankwa advised, "You must realize these aims with honesty and sincerity since GES would not condone or shield a teacher or head caught in any examination malpractices."

The DG's visit with the heads of SHS in the five Northern Regions is part of GES/attempts MoE's to encourage heads of SHS to make their final efforts to help the final years as they begin their WASSCE practicals next week. He stated that the Hon. Minister and his deputies, as well as the GES's two Deputy Director Generals, are meeting with regional leaders.
